Xiang embroidery with the excellent technique and unique style is a well-known handicraft created by Hunan people, and one of the famous four embroideries.

Xiang embroidery of long standing is originated from the folk embroidery in Hunan province. From the excavated embroidery sample of the Chu grave in Changsha area in 1958, embroidery in Hunan had a definite development in Spring and autumn period around 2500 years ago. Also, from the forty excavated embroidery clothes in Mawang pile of Changsha area in 1972, we can find that the embroidery in Hunan had developed in a higher lever around 2100 years ago of West Han dynasty. After this, during the endless development, the elegant art style had formed gradually. With the producing development of the Xiang embroidery articles in modern society, even the arduous creation of ampliate and some outstanding artists' joining in for the improvement of the Xiang embroidery, people use many fine tradition of the Chinese painting on the embroidery, together with the traditional painting, embroidery, poem, calligraphy, inscriptions etc. some arts skillful to form the basis of Chinese painting with more than seventy kinds of stitches and one hundred embroidery colors, to fully show the virtue of stitches, to score the point of the complete article in a subtle way.
